USHUAIA - TIERRA DEL FUEGOTierra del Fuego Cuisine The tourist who visits Tierra del Fuego will find a different gastronomic proposal from that in the rest of Argentina. However, you are also offered the traditional beef and parrillada (barbecue) which are worldwide known. Among the most typical dishes, you can find the exquisite "centolla fueguina" (Fueguian crab), a crustacean with a big shell that can be confused with a giant crab and is plentiful in this area, or a black hake coated in a tasteful sea sauce. Apart from the extraordinary seafood and fishes, you will find the interesting abadejo, a kind of codfish of southern waters, and the besugo (sea bream) which is a fish that is usually grilled with scales so that its sauce is better kept. For those who prefer meat, Ushuaia also offers its typical Patagonian lamb. Ushuaia has very good gastronomic facilities where you will be kindly welcomed. For example, there are different restaurants in San Martín and Maipú streets where you can taste the typical above-mentioned dishes ("Bodegón Fueguino" or "Parador del Fin del Mundo"). The facilities extend to the outskirts of this city where you will find "Haruwen" at National Route Nº 3 km 30, just to mention one. If you wish to taste a typical Argentinean parrillada (barbecue) you will find a varied and important choice on the main streets in Ushuaia: "La Estancia" or "Rancho Argentino", among others. While you walk along the streets in this city and enjoy the wonderful surrounding nature, you will find many cafes, bars, pizza parlors, tearooms and the worldwide known fast-food restaurants. |
