USHUAIA - TIERRA DEL FUEGOBY LAND By car The only access to the city of Ushuaia is from Rio Grande, along National Route Nº 3, which starts in Buenos Aires. The traveler must cross the border with the Republic of Chile either through San Sebastián Pass on the ferry that crosses the Strait of Magellan (Punta Delgada - Azul Bay) or through the border pass of Monte Aymond on the ferry Punta Arenas - Porvenir. Since this alternative implies leaving the country, Argentinean tourists should consider having all the appropriate documents for that purpose. In the case of underage travelers, they should carry a legalized authorization from both parents. It should also be reminded that animals or perishable goods are not allowed to cross the border. The buses leave in the evening (usually between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.) and the trip takes 36 hours approximately. Ltda. and Bus Sur connect El Calafate with Puerto Natales (Chile) in a regular way. From Puerto Natales to Punta Arenas there are buses every hour from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. all the year round.
