SAN MARTIN DE LOS ANDESSpring is the ideal time of year. The city with its population of 20 thousand opens up a cornucopia of possibilities for adventuresome spirits. San Martín de los Andes lies 1,602 kilometers from the Federal District and at 640 meters above sea level, nestling on the east shore of Lake Lácar, and affording a splendid view of the beauties of Lanín National Park. With every facility at hand, all that one has to do is enjoy the adventure. The alternatives include a range of options for trekking, climbing, mountain biking, excursions in 4-wheel drive rovers or rafting. San Martín de los Andes is the second largest city in the 7 Southern Lakes Belt. Hidden among the forests and mountains of Lanín National Park, it is a place you can't miss seeing. San Martín de los Andes manages to bring together a great variety of different activities: from beachside sunning to windsurfing and the very latest adventure tourism sports, it is famous for offering its inhabitants and the visiting tourists a privileged lifestyle. Skiing The season starts in mid-July and ends in late September. Its wide range of runs makes it the ideal place to practice Alpine skiing and snowboarding. It is world-class, as well as being one of the most important ski centers in the country, offering its guests a complete facility infrastructure. Mountaineering The imposing summit of Lanín volcano, at 3,776 meters above sea level is the most popular venue in the area. Its ascent is a permanent draw for climbing enthusiasts. Trekking This can be done on many tracks and trails, both around San Martín de los Andes and within Lanín National Park. In the surrounding area, we can go up to the Bandurrias and Arrayán lookout points. Lanín National Park has infinite trails for this activity, leading to lookouts, waterfalls, lakes and other spectacular landscapes. Rafting In this area we have rivers of different difficulty for rafters, such as the Meliquina or the Hua Hum. Canoeing and kayaking Lanín National Park with its whole lake basin is a very suitable spot for these activities. |
