LLAO LLAO RESORT & SPA
8.15 am. The first transfer to the Catedral slopes has just left. It's almost daylight and the breakfast served in Los Césares is out of this world (starting with warm waffles with milk caramel and berries). You must really be keen on skiing to want to leave the hotel this early.
8.45 am. The second minibus drives off. I can see Lake Moreno through the window and the waiter just passed by with steaming coffee and such a friendly smile - the service here is tops - and I can't resist. Suddenly it begins to snow. All is white outside. The 9 o'clock and 9.30 buses depart. Who cares?
10.00 am. It's time to get a move on. If it's snowing like this down in Puerto Pañuelo, it must be fabulous up on the slopes. Besides, if I don't go I'll never get to see the place that the Llao Llao has in the Las Terrazas mall exclusively for their guests, right off the sextuple chair lift, the only covered one. No more excuses. There I can pick up my skis, boots and poles. I can even choose the time I wish to return.
Up and down, up and down. After all, this is what I came here for. I let my watch mark 15.45, and 16.15 (it's embarrassing to return so early ... but I'm missing the hotel). At 17.00, even if there are still two more transfers back, I decide to return. What a great day skiing, but how can it compare to the massage sessions awaiting me?
The big door leading to reception opens and the warmth inside is comforting. I decide to take advantage of the last rays of sun in my favourite corner: the winter garden. I order a coffee to pep me up a little. When night falls I concentrate on the details with which they have renewed and softened the heavy decoration of the 40's. I go up to my room. There is nothing like a good bath towel. Wearing my "shower hedonist" outfit I run downstairs. The size of everything in this hotel is impressive, even the stairs. There, where the casino used to be from 1940 and 1976 is now the spa and the covered swimming pool. The glorious sensation of swimming while it is snowing outside brings relief to every muscle.
At dinnertime, the gourmet options at Los Césares are complemented by the more casual cuisine in the Patagonia coffee shop. I think: "If I am going skiing tomorrow, I had better have a light meal". Great choice: excellent menu, delicious dishes and reasonable prices.
The following day, the pleasure of repeating what one knows is good. A splendid day. I don't know where the time went. It's 10.45 and I'm still here.
