HOW TO GET THERE
The great distances are not an impediment to enjoy the attractions of this region.
In El Calafate you will find different access alternatives to the main attractions in the area: Lake Argentino, Lake Roca, the glaciers in Los Glaciares National Park, such as Perito Moreno Glacier or, further north, El Chaltén or Mt Fitz Roy.
HOW DO I GET THERE BY CAR?
There is no inconvenience to get there by land.
From Río Gallegos (Province of Santa Cruz)
You can travel from Río Gallegos to El Calafate along a completely paved route. Take National Route (NR) Nº3, Provincial Route (PR) Nº5, National Route (NR) Nº40, and finally Provincial Route (PR) Nº11.
From San Martín de los Andes (Province of Neuquén)

FRONTIER PASSES to Chile:
Cancha Carrera Pass
This pass is open only during the summer (from December to March) and allows the access from El Calafate after traveling for 286 kilometers, along National Route Nº 40, to later go through Customs and cross to the Cerro Castillo area, south of which is the city of Puerto Natales in Chile.
Baguales Pass or Oriental Pass
An unpaved path to be covered on foot or horseback only.
Located 1,287 meters above sea level, this pass is only accessible on foot or on horseback and only during the summer, due to its height and frequent snowstorms.
HOW DO I GET THERE BY BUS?
From Río Gallegos, the bus journey lasts four hours; and from Puerto Natales, in Chile, just five hours.
HOW DO I GET THERE BY PLANE?
By plane, directly from El Calafate International Airport, from the most important cities of the country. The only airline that has regular flights is Aerolíneas Argentinas, several days a week.
Access to Perito Moreno glacier from El Calafate
The glacier is 78 kilometers from El Calafate. You can get there only by car or by bus along Provincial Route Nº 11 or 15, and continuing along National Route Nº 40 and Provincial Route Nº 23, which ends at Lake Del Desierto. The journey lasts four hours along a road which mostly graveled, with a mandatory stop halfway in La Leona (by a river of the same name) or at "Estancia Luz Divina".
