TORRES DEL PAINE
PUERTO NATALES
HOW TO GET THERE
By Land
The main access by land is along Route 9 north: Punta Arenas - Puerto Natales, barely 210 km. The other options by land are through the border crossings: Casas Viejas, Dorotea and Don Guillermo river, which are open all year round.
If you travel by bus, coaches leave from the bus station of El Calafate around 8.30 in the morning. There are about 286 km to Puerto Natales, most of them along gravel roads. The trip includes a stop for refreshments at a neglected hotel/restaurant in the solitude of the Patagonian steppe.
There is a further stop in the city of Río Turbio to change drivers and just a few kilometers ahead the regular Customs procedures have to be completed in order to be admitted into chilean territory. Twelve kilometers ahead of the Chilean border line, the coach finally gets to Puerto Natales, approximately at 14.30, but this depends on the time spent at the border,.
