CALAFATEThe two first impressions that the passenger gets as soon as he gets off the plane or when he arrives in El Calafate lands by bus or car, along any of the three national routes that connect with the rest of Argentina, are the majestic glaciers and the smell of "calafate", a thorny bush with yellow flowers that grows in the south of the Patagonia and offers a fruit which is a delicacy for the local baking. In El Calafate there is a wide variety of ecosystems and natural areas that perfectly match the different disciplines implied in Adventure Tourism. The visitor can choose from land or water excursions, either accompanied by specialized guides or on his own. As soon as you are settled in a comfortable hotel room, one of the numerous offered in the city, you can dive into Lake Argentino and from there, go into any of its arms. You may also choose to go to Viedma or San Martin lakes. Once there you can devote yourself to sport-fishing or go trekking in the surroundings, or into Los Glaciares National Park on horseback, by bicycle or "cuatriciclos" (four-wheel motorcycles) or camp at any of the ranches near the skirts of the glaciers. One of the main tracks is the one over Perito Moreno Glacier. You cannot miss it. It is the perfect place to live and feel adventure, mystery and virgin nature. |
