HANG GLIDING & PARAGLIDING IN PATAGONIAThe opportunity of flying like a bird, letting oneself go by the Patagonian wind, has no age limit. The experience may last a few minutes or several hours. In some places you can rent equipment and take some lessons. Recommended places General Roca It is one of the ideal places for hang-gliding. Every weekend you can see these "birds" flying the skies. El Bolsón At Piltriquitrón Peak instructors can be hired. You only need to be fit and daring. Rada Tilly Its quiet beaches and cliffs can be appreciated from the sky. If the wind takes you, you can even get to see the sea lions colony south of the town. Cinco Saltos In this location in Río Negro there is a hang-gliding school. There, you can practice tow-assisted flying, as the low heights do not allow good launchings. Bariloche Adventure Travel & Tours... It is an activity that combines adventure and scenic landscapes, since from the heights you get the best panoramic vantage points in the area.
Hang-gliding or paragliding is an activity that is suitable for all ages, and is practiced all year round. However, it is a good idea to receive proper and responsible instruction in the handling of the equipment guaranteeing familiarity with the sail, and the local climate and relief. So six days of good weather should be enough for you to fly in search of adventure. Neither special skill nor physical fitness is required, nor is there a minimum age limit, since no major effort is demanded from the "pilot". It is recommended that rookie flights be made on two-seater gliders, together with an experienced instructor. Those who show keener interest can take beginners' courses, with theoretical and practical content. The climate is a permanent question mark for paragliding due to its variability. The winds should be under 30 km/hour.  Ideal places for descent include Mt Otto and Mt Catedral, which are easily reached by chairlifts. Hang gliding can also be practiced from the "Anfiteatro" and Mt Villegas to the north, where there usually is a soft north wind.
In order to be as safe as thrilling, the flight should both keep its magic, while it loses its mystery. This is achieved when the necessary theory is learned and the instruments are properly handled.
